How We Build Concrete for Tustin Homes
We pour driveways, patios, pool decks and walkways for homeowners, and most of what makes that concrete last happens before the truck arrives. Here is how we work, what we check, and why the finish we suggest can make the outside of your home cooler to live with.
Concrete Is Mostly Preparation
A slab is only as good as what sits under it. Before we set a single form board, we look at the soil, the grade and where water goes when it rains. Clay soils swell when wet and shrink as they dry, and that movement is what cracks poorly prepared concrete. So we dig out soft material, bring in a compacted aggregate base and slope the finished surface away from your foundation.
Inside the forms, the details are specific. We place rebar or wire mesh on supports so it ends up in the middle of the slab, not lying in the dirt. We plan control joints at spacing that matches the slab thickness, so the concrete cracks where we tell it to instead of across the middle of your patio. Then we cure it properly, keeping the surface moist in the first days so it gains strength rather than drying out too fast in the sun.
We also think about heat. A large dark slab next to a south or west wall soaks up afternoon sun and releases it into the evening, warming the rooms behind that wall. Lighter colors and textured finishes reflect more of that energy. Where it fits your project, we will show you how a finish choice can keep a pool deck cooler underfoot or take some load off your air conditioning.
How We Run Every Job
A Clear Scope Before Work Starts
We walk the site with you, measure, and explain what the price depends on: square footage, demolition of old concrete, access for the truck or pump, base depth, and finish. You see what is included before anything is scheduled.
Finishes Chosen for Sun and Use
A broom finish gives traction on a sloped driveway. A light integral color or a cool-toned stamped concrete pattern stays more comfortable near a pool. We match the surface to how you will actually use it.
Drainage Built Into the Grade
Every slab we pour has a planned fall, typically toward a yard drain, a lawn or the street. Water that pools against a house wall leads to damp stucco and settling, so we plan its path before we pour.
A Clean Site at the End
We protect landscaping and hardscape we are not touching, haul away broken concrete and excess base, and wash down the work area. We also tell you when the new surface can take foot traffic and when it can take a car.
